1926
FoundationStarting in 1920, Charles Rutz learns the basics of grain trading in France. In 1926, he establishes his own trading company, initially located at Schweizergasse in Zurich.
1927
The Company GrowsJust one year after its foundation, the company's first location becomes too small and relocates to Löwenstrasse in Zurich.
Pre-War Period
Challenging War TimesIn the pre-war period, the business activities of Compagnie Grainière, notably also in Germany, grow. With the outbreak of war, trade relations become increasingly difficult. During these challenging times, the company benefits from its close network throughout Europe and expands its range of traded products from peas to bathtubs...
1945
Start of Sugar TradingIn 1945, Compagnie Grainière starts trading sugar for the first time. Already at that time, the company is characterized by flexibility and efficiency, qualities that become the company's trademarks in the coming decades.
1950
Journey to New YorkIn 1950, Paul Oskar Rutz, the founder's son, heads to New York to gain insight into grain trading – a journey that begins with a modest salary of 35 dollars per week but at the same time sets the groundwork for the upcoming start in the family-run business.
1953
Joining Compagnie GrainièreIn 1953, Paul Oskar Rutz officially joins Compagnie Grainière. With his expertise and experience, he plays a crucial role in further developing the company.
1966
Relocation to NordstrasseCompagnie Grainière continues to expand its business and relocates to Nordstrasse in Zurich.
1972
New GenerationAt the age of 72, Charles Rutz decides to hand over the company's management to his son, Paul Oskar Rutz. The trade in grain and feed continues to be the core business of the company.
1985
The Third GenerationThomas Rutz joins the company, contributing to the ongoing success of Compagnie Grainière.
1987
Relocation to DübendorfCompagnie Grainière relocates its headquarters to its current domicile, Auenstrasse 8 in Dübendorf.
1990
New HelmsmanThomas Rutz, the son of Paul Oskar Rutz, takes over the leadership of Compagnie Grainière, dynamically extending the long-standing family values to a new era.
2000
Specializing in Sugar TradingCompagnie Grainière intensifies its focus on sugar trading and becomes one of the most important players in this field in Switzerland.
2023
The Fourth GenerationDavid Rutz, son of Thomas Rutz and with him the fourth generation joining the company, is currently being acquainted with the business. David continues to operate on the basis of the company's traditional values, thereby pursuing the successful business with the flexibility to adapt to the constantly changing challenges of the trade.
